Celebrating 30 years of the Honda CR-V

For over 30 years, millions of families across the world have chosen the CR-V. From nursery runs and office commutes, to wild escapes and muddy boots, the CR-V has seen it all.

30 years of Adventures

Launched in Japan in 1995, the CR-V was Honda’s first sport utility vehicle, and was so called to reflect its purpose as a comfortable runabout vehicle. The upright design targeted families who wanted a compact SUV-style vehicle yet with all the practicalities and comfort of a traditional car and featured a rear-mounted spare tyre on a swing out hinged door, and a 4WD 4-speed 2.0l engine. Full of innovative features, it even included a removeable foldout picnic table that was built into the floor of the boot compartment, beneath which was a hidden plastic storage area that could be used for storing wet clothing or dirty walking boots. Essential when one of the available accessories was a portable shower!

The CR-V ‘Dream Pod’ concept

Perfect for late nights out in the wilderness.

Sleeping under the stars

To celebrate Honda’s continuing spirit of adventure and to mark the 30th anniversary of the CR-V we’ve created a one-of-a-kind ‘Dream Pod’ concept, inspired by Japan’s capsule hotels. Combining wanderlust with the much-loved CR-V, the concept brings together purchasable accessories that can convert the CR-V into a cosy retreat, perfect for a night under the stars. The EGOE Nestboard 650 is a compact in-car camping solution, complete with bed and double mattress, and a pull-out cooking & sink area that fits perfectly in the CR-V with the seats folded flat. Combined with roof bars, a bike rack and some waterproof mats, all from the Honda Genuine Accessories range, and you’re set for adventure!

Acclaimed astrophotographer, Benjamin Barakat, experienced the ‘Dream Pod’s’ bijou accommodation when he took a loaded CR-V e:PHEV to the Alps to sleep out and photograph Orion’s Nebula, part of the Milky Way. Despite being far from home, the ‘Dream Pod’s’ carefully curated comfort allowed Benjamin to confidently head off the beaten track in search of stunning celestial sights. “The CR-V with the ‘Dream Pod’ concept is perfect for late nights out in the wilderness.” Benjamin Barakat, astrophotographer.
