HONDA AT SOUTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY

The University of Southampton campus buzzed with excitement as Honda arrived to showcase bikes to inspire the next generation of bikers.  Honda Bought along six stunning motorcycles - with the line up including the GB350s, CL500, PCX, CBR500R, CB650R and the new electric CUV e:. The visit’s aim was to inspire students to see the benefits of two wheels, both financially and ecofriendly and as great way to get round busy cities.

Throughout the day, students and staff had the chance to explore the bikes up close, learning more about the technology, design, and performance behind each model. From the sleek and sporty CBR500R to the versatile CL500 and the efficient PCX scooter, the futuristic looking CUV: e and all the benefits of being all electric. As students could view the versatile range of bikes we provided, they could see up close why some bikes can be better adapted for certain uses.

The CBR500R was a popular choice for many inquisitive students to initiate questions, as it’s difficult to walk past the eye-catching Tricolour, race-inspired livery that the bike was dressed in. For many, that was a nice “icebreaker” bike before venturing further into the lineup, with many taking an interest in the retro styled GB350s with the classic feel of the bike, and then onto the CUV: e with thought provoking questions being asked about the future of bikes!

A highlight of the event was an interactive competition which saw over 200 participants take part in challenges, testing their motorcycle knowledge and creativity, alongside brand awareness, and all the industries Honda operates in. Entrants walked away with Honda-branded prizes, such as bobble hats and water bottles. Joint lucky winners found out they had won a CBT for themselves and a friend, and four other lucky students won a £50 voucher for costa coffee! Many students also took the opportunity to connect with Honda representatives about career and internship opportunities and the range of roles that Honda has to offer, including a variety of careers available.

A secondary benefit of an event like this is about getting people of all back grounds involved and up on two wheels safely, but also to get younger generations involved in such a diverse and friendly community. As to many reading this, it is no surprise that the average age of a biker is going up each year, partially due to less young people seeing the benefits of riding and not understanding the full potential of bike ownership. With those that have been riding for many years and not wanting to give up such a great and freeing way to travel, commute, or simply explore the lovely sites and history that surrounds us all. Additionally, there was lots of genuine interest by students who were pleasantly surprised by Honda’s presence on their campus and therefore there were lots of questions.

This ranged from the intricacies of how the license system worked, to how some of the new features of “Dream Tech” function, such as the new E – Clutch systems which feature on many bikes we now sell. We have found E – clutch to be very popular with new riders as it is impossible to stall at low speeds, doing all the hard work for you. It is also popular with many who struggle with hand grip and the constant changing and pressure, relieving them to enjoy the ride pain free!

Seeing such success and joy from students, we are looking at other universities to visit in the coming year - could it be yours?
