FUN ON THE RIVER EXE

WITH HONDA

Pack your appetite for adventure and fine dining, because today we’ll be transporting you to Exmouth and the River Exe Estuary to see Highfield boats in action.

When you think of wakeboarding and al fresco seafood lunches, you might not picture the UK – but the River Exe is home to a whole host of surprising activities.

Located mostly in Devon, the River Exe flows for over 56km. On the South East coast lies Exmouth, a town that gets its name from its position at the ‘tidal mouth’ where the River Exe meets the sea. That’s where we’ll be headed to find the floating barges accessible only by boat.

From yoga and watersports to an award-winning restaurant and sundowner cocktails, the perfect weekend staycation might not be as far away as you think...

An exhilarating experience

Calling all thrillseekers, it’s time to get your adrenaline pumping. Whether you’re trying waterskiing and wakeboarding for the first time, or you’re a seasoned pro – Exewake welcomes groups and individuals of all ages and abilities for a day full of fun aboard their Highfield boats.

Although the centre has been operating for over a decade, husband and wife team Ria and Tim Ball, along with their business partner James Edge took over in 2017.

“Within a year of owning the business we made some significant changes by purchasing the brand new boats, creating an online booking system and successfully applying for a premises licence to create an on deck bar.”

Exewake’s team of pro instructors will have you gliding across the water and mastering some serious skills, before hitting their ‘bar-ge’ for après ski drinks once you’ve pulled off the wetsuit. But if getting soaked isn’t quite your thing, not to worry – floating Vinyasa yoga surrounded by stunning scenery just might be.

When you’re out working on the water every day, it’s important to have equipment you can really count on. That’s why the boats the team rely on day after day are crafted by Highfield and powered by Honda engines, known for their performance and reliability.

Watch the video to see the Highfield Sport 520 and 650 cutting through the waves effortlessly. They combine Highfields Hull design expertise with the ultimate in interior comfort. Each boat is made from highest quality materials and does not delaminate or absorb water over time, retaining the same agile performance in 10 years as the day you collected it.

Combine this superior craftsmanship with the unrivalled technology of a Honda marine engine, and you’ve got the perfect partnership. Simply zip around the water and enjoy the experience without a care in the world.

Time to relax

If a relaxed approach is more your style, we’ve got you covered. A trip to the River Exe wouldn’t be complete without cruising around the picture-perfect estuary on your way to eat at the River Exe Cafe...in a highfield rib powered by Honda, of course.

The restaurant prides itself on being Devon’s only ‘floating Gastro Shed’, but the unique experience isn’t only about the pretty views.

River Exe Cafe sources its food locally from only the finest producers in the area, including freshly caught fish delivered directly by the local fisherman.

“World Champion gig-rower Ian Donohue is one fisherman who often supplies our lobsters from his vessel 'Girl Scout'.”

And after a spectacular meal, it’s time for some equally spectacular views. From Exmouth Marina, explore the beaches, sandy shorelines and coves that Devon has to offer by boat.

Thanks to the luxury and comfort from Highfield designs and optimum performance from Honda, you’ll be cruising around the water in style. Be sure to stop off at Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve and take a walk across the unspoilt beaches and sand dunes. Plus, there’s also no better way to see the Jurassic Coast – the only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site in England.

Whether you’re after adventure or a bit of R&R, a Highfield boat with a Honda engine is the perfect way to get out on the water, have some fun and discover what the Great British coastline has to offer.
