It’s not always about the pace, it’s about being consistently smooth too. Watch the Honda Civic Type R LogR data logger in action.
For the first time ever – in any Honda – we've introduced a new performance data logger, and it’s exclusive to the Civic Type R. It’s called LogR. It features three main functions and combines the Type R’s onboard computer and sensors with a smartphone app to help drivers monitor and record a variety of performance parameters to help improve your driving skills on and off the track.
When connected to your smartphone, via the app, the Type R’s centre screen displays a Performance Monitor, which allows you to view the vehicle as you drive. It displays important engine information too, along with gear positions. You can also choose between a “G-Meter” view that indicates acceleration, braking and cornering, or a “3D” view that provides an aerial view of these movements in action.
Quite simply, Log Mode has been designed to help you achieve the best possible lap times on a track and to improve your skill. Using GPS, the app encourages smooth driving by displaying a colour-coded trace of each lap. It’s a great way to see your lines and encourage smooth use of the clutch, gear shift, steering, brakes and accelerator. Drivers can save lap times for comparison in future.
Auto Score helps to improve your routine daily driving skill by keeping track of acceleration, deceleration, turning and straight-line driving. The Auto Score function encourages safer, smoother driving and is not for chasing down lap times associated with the LogR mode. It also stores a historical record to show a progression of driving improvement.
An all-new data logging app designed to provide drivers with data and scoring information, to help improve driving skill when driving on the track or other closed courses.
The Type R responds instantly with its powerful, hard-charging 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine. It has a peak power output of 320PS at 6,500rpm, and peak torque is 400Nm from 2,500rpm to 4,500rpm. When you hear the raw exhaust note, combined with Active Sound Control (ASC) that boosts engine sound through the audio system’s speakers, you’ll get a large dose of adrenalin too.
Sharper shifting through its six gears, the Civic Type R’s manual transmission provides you with the most invigorating acceleration ever. Then, there’s the rev match control system that delivers a rewarding connection with the driver. It works progressively in all driving modes, allowing you to execute seamless gear shifts without any shift shock - just like a pro. This car will take hold of your emotions and won't let go.
To dissipate heat and reduce brake fade, the Civic Type R features an upgraded, lighter braking system. With two-piece floating front brake discs and all-new brake pads, you’ll experience better on-track performance with a more immediate feel through the brake pedal.
The Adaptive Damper System’s control software now calculates road conditions faster, resulting in improved damper reactions for a sharper handling response. The front and rear bushings have been upgraded along with stiffer rear suspension arms for better toe-in characteristics when cornering. The result is sharper steering feel and better control, this car hugs the road and doesn’t protest when you ask it for more power.
The Type R can growl, or roar, whenever the mood takes you.
You can change the way the Type R feels by switching between modes even while driving - so when you come to your favourite corner, you can easily flick out of ‘Sport’ to ‘+R’ mode for a quick on-track experience.
The Type R gets a new ‘Comfort’ setting – for a smoother and more economical drive.
This is the default setting for the Type R and provides more precise handling. It provides the optimum vehicle set up for driving on your favourite open road.
Track-focused ‘+R’ mode is the setting for a day on a circuit. The Type R becomes closer to you in every sense, you can feel it – definitely hear it – and you’ll begin to know what excitement tastes like too when you let it off the leash.
If there is a possibility of a collision with a vehicle or a pedestrian, this feature will alert you to the danger as well as reduce your speed to help minimise the severity of any impact.
Forward Collision Warning will alert you to the possibility of a low-speed collision. This helpful safety system will inform you with audible and visual alerts displayed on the dashboard while your Civic Type R decelerates and stops without you having to keep your foot on the brake.
The Lane Keeping Assist System provides a less stressful driving experience, especially on motorways, by keeping the car in the middle of the lane. This is overridden when the indicator is used.
The Traffic Sign Recognition System identifies traffic signs and relays this information to you via a visual display. Two signs can be displayed at any one time.
Adaptive Cruise Control maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. If a vehicle in an adjacent lane intends to cut in front of you, your Honda predicts this and adjusts the speed automatically – only resuming to the set speed when the danger has passed.
