Honda Transalp

18/02/2008 - All-new Transalp

The Honda Transalp is 20 years old and has quietly been carving itself a niche, thanks to its versatility, dependability and durability. And with big changes for 2008, the new model looks set to build upon its legendary status.

For 2008 the Transalp has a larger capacity motor, up 33cc to 680cc, but it still stems from the long-lived Revere, NTV and Deauville motor. On the chassis side of things, the most significant upgrade is the change from a 21-inch wheel to a 19-incher, giving the machine a much more comfortable and stable ride on the road, which is where most Transalps spend their lives, despite the off-road looks and ability.

Respected two-wheeled writer Kevin Ash had this to say about the new Transalp: “In many respects the Transalp is still outstanding. Comfort is good, the reach to the ground is easier for shorter riders and the ride quality is a lot better than some of the competition. Its sheer manageability makes it ideal as a first big bike for novice riders, as well as a good choice for the rest of us. Honda's excellent ABS comes as standard too, which will also encourage the inexperienced. Now the dedicated Transalpian will still be happy, but many more will find themselves drawn to its exceptionally easy ride and its head-turning style.”
