THE LEGEND RETURNS

30 years ago, the Africa Twin conquered the Paris-Dakar Rally. Though today’s model has been reimagined, its spirit remains the same. Designed to withstand thousands of miles of desert and dirt, if there’s one machine that encapsulates True Adventure, it’s the Africa Twin.

To celebrate this pioneering motorcycle, and the legends it inspired, we’ve created a limited edition poster. Download your copy before it’s too late. Or read on to learn more about the Africa Twin.

THE ADVENTURE BEGINS

Standing on the shoulders of giants.

In the 1980s, Honda introduced the NXR750, a motorcyle with one purpose: to compete in long distance overland races like the gruelling Paris-Dakar race, and to win. And we did. In 1986 and 1987 in the hands of Cyril Neveu, in ‘88 with Edi Orioli and finally in ‘89 piloted by Gilles Lalay. The first ever Africa Twin was released in 1988 in tribute to their efforts, and laid the foundation of what would become a legendary machine.

DEFINING TRUE ADVENTURE

It’s not a question of how far your Honda will go. It’s how far you’re willing to take it.

No other motorcycle encapsulates the spirit of True Adventure like the Africa Twin. Its go-anywhere ability, rugged durability, easy-handling agility and all-day comfort made it the perfect partner with which to explore. It helped to define a motorcycling segment that has now grown into one of the most popular worldwide.

FOLLOW THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED

Then show others the way.

In 1989 the XRV750 Africa Twin was launched and quickly became an adventure touring benchmark. It featured a 742cc, 6-valve liquid-cooled V-twin engine, long travel suspension, 21-inch front wheel and dual front disc brakes. Revised twice, the XRV750 remained in production until 2003 and remains a sought-after machine today.

BUILDING LEGEND UPON LEGEND

Every Honda motorcycle we make is inspired by everything that came before.

The new Africa Twin remains true to the spirit and abilities of the XRV650 and its successor the XRV750, while adding the benefits of everything Honda have learned over the last decade. And for the first time, the Africa Twin will feature the option of Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) technology, specifically made to provide the off-road ability that makes this legendary motorcycle the ultimate adventure bike.
