Bio-fabric | Designing the future | Environment | Honda UK
When you’re behind the wheel of the Honda FCX Clarity, even the fabric you’re sitting on has helped reduce CO2 emissions. This is because it’s made from plants. It’s all part of our ongoing aim to make every part of every new car we design and build as environmentally-friendly as possible.
Go green in comfort
Bio-fabrics aren’t new, but concerns about their durability and the way they look have previously limited their use. Our bio-fabric is not only soft and smooth to the touch, but designed to last. It’s also highly resistant to sunlight, to prevent fading. All of which makes it ideal for seat covers, door trims, floor mats, and more.
Cleaner to make
Bio-fabrics are produced in exactly the same way as petroleum-based polyester materials – no special technology is required. But the big difference is that they take 10 to 15% less energy to make and save up to 30% in CO2 emissions.
In addition, the CO2 that is emitted when it comes to disposing of your car is offset by the CO2 that was absorbed by the plants used in the fabric.
We’re sure you’ll be seeing a lot more of our bio-fabric, but look out for it first in the FCX Clarity.
