Waste management

Waste is unavoidable in the work we do. But it’s what we do with that waste that makes all the difference to the impact we have on the environment.

Our ‘waste hierarchy’

When we think of waste, we think in this order of actions:

• Minimise
• Re-use
• Recycle
• Incinerate
• Controlled disposal

In this way, we’re ensuring all waste is effectively managed across all departments – from general office materials to hazardous solvents.

Landfill reductions

By 2010, our aim is to have reduced the amount of waste we take to landfills to zero. We’re already well on our way. Back in 1994, each car that left our Swindon plant produced 71kg of waste. In 2007, that figure was down to 6kg per car.
