Energy management
We work hard to reduce CO2 emissions not only in the things we make, but also in the many ways we make them. That’s why we ask all our departments to look out for ways they can reduce energy consumption – from the ‘base energy’ that powers our buildings, to the ‘process energy’ that’s used to manufacture our cars.
Our energy consumption targets
From 1999 to 2009, we’ve reduced gas and electricity consumption by 58% per car. But we’re not stopping there. Each department continues to set new targets and develop action plans to cut energy consumption further.
Government targets
Our work meets – and often exceeds – energy targets set by government agencies:
- Climate Change Levy – this covers our Paint, Bumper Paint, and Engine Die Cast departments
- EU Emission Trading Scheme – we’ve achieved year on year improvements against the target emissions set by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)
