The Civic 1.4 i-VTEC SE, Parker's New Car of the Year 2012, comes out on top of its three main class rivals in total cost of motoring - the Audi A3 Sportback 1.2 TFSI, the Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDI 105 Bluemotion, and the Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI Edge 5dr.
The calculation takes into account fixed costs of depreciation, interest, showroom tax and the first registration fee, and running costs of service and repair, road tax, and fuel.
Based on three years of ownership and covering 30,000 miles, the Civic's monthly total costs are lower than the Audi, Volkswagen, and Ford.
